President Obama Creates the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument

Take Action

Take action: Thank President Obama and Interior Secretary Jewell for creating the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument in southern New Mexico!

The dedication of local advocates and letters of support from across the nation have helped make this conservation achievement possible. For nearly a decade, Hispanic leaders, veterans, Native Americans, sportsmen, small business owners, border security experts, ranchers, faith leaders, historians, and conservationists have been working to protect this rare American landscape, its abundant wildlife and plant species, and its rich history.

By designating this area a national monument, President Barack Obama and Secretary Sally Jewell have protected local treasures such as the Organ and Sierra de las Uvas Mountains, historic trails such as El Camino Real and Butterfield Overland Stagecoach. Their decision will bring jobs and economic development to the region far into the future. Studies show that this national monument could add more than $7.4 million in annual economic activity and double the number of jobs supported by outdoor recreation and regional tourism.

Thanks to the support of people like you throughout the country, we now have a reason to celebrate. Please send your letter now!
